Colorado Transgender Rights Legal Defense and Education Project

This website is intended to provide general legal information for issues facing transgender persons in Colorado.

The transgender community is made up of a diverse set of different subgroups. The interests and legal issues of post-op transsexuals is quite different from those of part time crossdressers. Both are quite different from intersexed people, androgenous people or other gender nonconforming groups. Yet we are all branded with the big T. This makes it a daunting task to try to address all the issues faced by all the subgroups. If we did try the result would be so voluminous that it would not be very useful and the laws change so quickly we could never keep up.

In designing this site we decided the only practical solution was to set up the forums in such a way that people could ask questions and other users, advocates, activists or staff could respond.

The forums are divided into a number of issue areas according to focus areas identified and prioritized by the activists who first got involved in this organization. Additional catagories were added for news, event notices, and general questions not fitting other categories.

Your first step when you personally have an issue is locating local assistance. That is why we have the long list of LGBT organizations statewide on the left side of the page. Most LGBT groups and all the larger ones have someone on staff to deal with trans issues. We know of many other groups, but listed only the ones with a website we could link to. If you don't see a group in your area you may be able to find one in the phone book. If you know of other groups that should be listed or our link is out of date, email the website administrator and it will be fixed.

Legal issues often have strict time limits for filing a complaint. Do not delay seeking assistance.

By entering here and using this website you agree to our terms of use. Among other things, you agree not to disclose any personal information you learn about other users to any third parties and you agree not to use this site for spamming or advertising any product or service. Violation of our terms of use will result in restrictions on your access up to and including totally barring you from the site. A complete listing of all terms of use is in the registration area.

Opinions expressed in the forums are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of this site or anyone associated with it. Nothing on this site constitutes therapy or a substitute for therapy. Nothing on this site constitutes medical or legal advice. If any of the issues discussed here affect you personally, you should discuss them with an appropriate professional.

Legal views express only general information and do not imply legal advice concerning any issue. Legal advice concerning a specific question would require obtaining additional details and information which would be virtually impossible to do online.
